…..We all deserve love
For someone who actually has little to no adult life Valentine’s day stories to tell, I actually remember valentine’s day from my childhood a lot. It was that day every year when my mum and dad would lock me and my siblings at home and literally disappear. My mum looked forward to valentine’s day a lot and still does to date.
I have never really celebrated valentine’s day before. I received a gift two days after valentine’s day from my very first boyfriend years back but that’s about it. And in high school; we paired ourselves in each class and exchanged gifts.
I am indifferent about valentine’s day mostly because the idea of treating your lover or loved ones special one day in a year has just never sat well with me. In my opinion, every day should be valentine’s day. If the idea is to show love and show your loved ones you care; then every day should be valentine’s day (a.k.a. be consistent with the energy). I don’t have any fantasy or perfect idea of valentine’s day, I just know I want to someday lock my kids home or leave them with their grandparents and disappear with my husband like my mum and dad used to, lol.
I asked my followers on Instagram to give their ideas of a “perfect valentine’s day”. I enjoyed reading people’s views and fantasies and who knows you might enjoy it too. I loved that people gave their honest opinions, both men and women. This might just be helpful with ideas on how to celebrate Valentine this year.

My Perfect Valentine’s this year would be the whole day spent indoors with the love of my life. I have been too stressed lately so, breakfast in bed, a thoroughly relaxing full body massage with the perfect ambiance; candles, diffusers(I love fragrances that smell like rain on earth), dim lights, and soul music. Hopefully, it has a happy ending. Up next is good sleep! Ughhh. Then wake up to a good meal, a full three-course. No one is cooking, so take out it is. Lots of talking and laughter, reflect on our journey so far, see a cheesy movie, WINE. More WINE, Sleep…..

I’m indifferent about Valentine’s day. A perfect valentine’s day for me will be spending time with my lady at home or out. Just being in each other’s company and experiencing the happiness that we have each other. I haven’t experienced my perfect valentine yet.
3. Amara, 18 (Ukraine)
My idea of a perfect time is to spend time at home with a bucket of ice cream, a box of my favorite pizza, a box of pineapple juice, and a movie to binge-watch…Perfect.
4. Chidubem, 24 (Nigeria)
My idea of a perfect valentine.
I’d love to get dressed, sexy dressed. We get an apartment with all we need in it i.e., Smoke, drinks, food, music, pool, Netflix, etc. Slow music playing in the background; we see a lovely movie while we smoke, exchange gifts, gentle lovemaking with them silhouette lights (chuckles). We would eat if we remember to, play games after we’ve knocked ourselves out with smoke and rounds of lovemaking. I haven’t experienced my perfect Valentine yet.
5. Adarhh (Lagos, Nigeria)
A perfect valentine’s day for me would be to chill with my baby and drink milk together (chuckles).
6. Jean, (United Kingdom)
My idea of a perfect valentine’s day would be Gifting. Spend the day together ticking things off our adventure list, end the day fully glammed for dinner.
7. Ayo, (Texas, USA)
Waking up to my baby, making me breakfast in bed, and flowers on the dresser. I get taken to a spa date where they take care of me and I get to release all my stress, then I get dressed in an outfit I know she likes to see me in, and we lay and make love for the rest of the day. Basically, I want what women get on valentine’s day. I want to be taken care of too.

Whoever stole the 30th and 31st of February needs to come get the 14th ASAP.
9. Oluchi, 24 (Maryland, USA)
Valentine’s? Is that some brand of soap??
10. Lilian, 24 (Nigeria)
A perfect valentine’s day for me would comprise of breakfast in bed, a spa date with my lover, shopping, lots and lots of gifts, a visit to the less privileged. Then round the day up with a perfect dinner date. I was lucky to have experienced two out of all of this in the past, but I still want to experience it all.
11. Sam, 24 (Owerri, Nigeria)
What is Valentine’s day?
12. Machy, (Maryland, USA)
My idea of a perfect Valentine’s day would be eating junk food together, it doesn’t matter if we go out or stay in. Exchanging gifts that show we know each other.
13. Melaine (Owerri, Nigeria)
My idea of a perfect valentine’s would-be dinner with my baby and exchanging gifts.
14. Favour, 21 (Nigeria)
I have only been in a relationship once and no, we didn’t celebrate valentine even though I really wanted us to (the idiot is mad). I really love the idea of getting dressed, dinner, exchanging gifts, spending fun time together! That’s a perfect valentine’s day to me. God when? (chuckles).
15. Lyneth, (Nigeria)
A perfect valentine’s for me would be a perfect dinner date, then go home and make lots of love.
16. Blue, (Lagos, Nigeria)
A time out with boo will be perfect for valentine’s day.
17. Amala (Nigeria)
Well, I believe in celebrating valentine’s day and showing love to our loved ones. I do not necessarily spend it with a lover; I spend it with other people who are important to me as well. Back in school, I always did something for my girls or make us all go out together, this was mostly because we were all single at the time. I am a big fan of valentine’s day and showing love.
18. Kemdi, 27 (Nigeria)
For me, I feel if you are in a relationship, February 14th should not be such a big deal, why wait till that day to do something special? This is because personally, I don’t like doing things when the whole world is on about it. So I guess I will just send a long romantic text message in the morning, cook dinner in the evening, have glasses of wine, dance to slow music, and just have a heartfelt conversation. Maybe see a movie, but that’s basically it for me.
19. Yvngboygram, 69 (Nigeria)
I think valentine’s day is highly overrated, or maybe I’m just broke.
20. Lulu (Virginia, USA)
What if I don’t have a response? I’ve never actually celebrated valentine’s day. Shocked yeah?? Me too. The only time I tried to make it memorable, my ex-boyfriend bailed on me. And in the real sense, every day should be a day to show love and care to your dear one(s). it shouldn’t be summed up in one day every year.
Well, I’ll just end it here by reminding you all, that you are deserving of love. We all are. We deserve a love that is kind, gentle, and understanding. We deserve a love that feels like home even on bad days, a love that is thoughtful. We deserve love filled with honesty and respect. And you know what????
Someday we’ll find it.
Happy Valentine’s day to you all ( I love you )
